Not every cafe wants you there for 4 hours — these 5 do
Lisbon has a strong cafe culture, but not every spot welcomes laptop workers during peak hours. The places below have been tested by remote workers for WiFi reliability, outlet access, and tolerance for long sessions.
Copenhagen Coffee Lab
Rua Nova da Piedade 10, Chiado
Fabrica Coffee Roasters
Rua das Flores 63, Santos
The Mill
Rua do Poço dos Negros 1, Príncipe Real
Dear Breakfast
Rua das Gaivotas 17, Bairro Alto
Wish Slow Coffee House
Rua do Loreto 1, Chiado
Cafe work etiquette in Lisbon
- Order every 2-3 hours. A single espresso (EUR 0.70-1.20) buys you about 2 hours of work time without judgment.
- Avoid lunch rush (12:30-14:00). Most cafes need the tables for eating customers during this window.
- Weekday mornings are best. Tourist-heavy cafes in Chiado and Bairro Alto fill up on weekends.
- Ask before plugging in. Some outlets are behind furniture or reserved. A quick “Posso usar?” goes a long way.
WiFi backup plan
Lisbon’s mobile data is fast and affordable. A prepaid NOS or Vodafone SIM (EUR 15 for 10 GB) gives you a reliable hotspot fallback when cafe WiFi drops or you need to take a call.
When cafes aren’t enough
If you need guaranteed uptime, video call privacy, or ergonomic seating for a full workday, consider a coworking space. Day passes start at EUR 15 — see our Coworking Spaces in Lisbon guide.
