Da Nang’s cafe scene — beach breeze, strong coffee, plenty of outlets
Da Nang has built one of Vietnam’s most laptop-friendly cafe scenes. Most spots openly welcome remote workers for half-day sessions, WiFi runs 50-150 Mbps on fiber, and a flat white or Vietnamese cà phê sữa đá costs 1-3 USD. The density is highest in An Thượng, My An, and along the My Khe beachfront. Specialty roasters and local Vietnamese coffee chains sit side by side — you can cycle between both depending on mood.

Cafe etiquette in Da Nang
Order at the counter, pay upfront with cash (VND) or card — most An Thượng cafes take Visa/Mastercard. Tipping is not expected, but rounding up a few thousand đồng is welcome. Staff rarely push you to leave; a fresh drink every 2-3 hours keeps the relationship friendly.
Air conditioning matters. Outdoor seating is great for early mornings, but from 11:00 onwards the heat makes indoor AC cafes the productive choice. 43 Factory, The Local Beans, and XLIII run strong AC through the dry season.
Laptop rules: Most Da Nang cafes explicitly welcome laptops — some even provide desk-height tables with power strips. Cong Caphe branches on weekends can get loud and tourist-heavy, so shift to local independents for calls.
Best neighborhoods for cafe-hopping
An Thượng — Density leader. Within 400 metres you hit 43 Factory, Nam House, XLIII, and a dozen smaller specialty spots. Most menus are bilingual, prices sit in the 2-3 USD range for a flat white.
Hai Chau (Downtown) — Older district along the Han River. The Local Beans and the original Cong Caphe anchor a more local scene — cheaper coffee (1-2 USD), slightly slower WiFi.
My Khe Beach — Beachfront cafes like Surf Spot and smaller independents cluster along Vo Nguyen Giap. WiFi is decent but variable — good for morning sessions before heat peaks.
